STD & Teen Pregnancy Prevention
STD & Teen Pregnancy Prevention can be a challenging topic to address but it is a vital one. I’ve had the privilege of working on 10 awareness efforts and have seen some amazing improvements in this space.
Rubber Rover Omaha
Client: Women’s Fund of Omaha
Despite shocking numbers and Omaha being a top location for STDs, the topic of STDs is kept quiet.
Tasked with driving the conversation about STDs and safe sex into the open, BVK and Serve Marketing created the Rubber Rover, the Women’s Fund of Omaha's very own mobile condom unit, fully designed from bumper to bumper in a vibrant, eye-catching design complete with over 80 illustrated condoms. The Rubber Rover ambassador squad hit the streets of Omaha for a weeklong tour, distributing over 13,000 condoms at popular spots, including after school programs, bars and the MAHA Music Festival, creating a fun engaging space complete with Jenga, trivia and prizes. But most importantly, the Rubber Rover got people to talk openly about STD’s and the importance of safe sex and getting tested. The campaign generated a massive amount of social media engagement in Omaha among teens and parents.

The Truth Is

Half of all sexually active people locally will get an STD before the age of 25, according to the Milwaukee Health Department. To bring attention to sexual health and help reduce the stigma associated with STD Testing, local nonprofit Diverse & Resilient has developed The Truth Is Campaign. This campaign aims to destigmatize STD testing by sharing nothing but the truth in an engaging unique way.

Safe Never Goes Out Of Style
Client: Women’s Fund of Omaha
While shopping for the perfect formal wear and prepping for the big day, local youth and parents found a new type of apparel in Omaha - outfits made of condoms. Each outfit featured the message “Safe never goes out of style” and directed people online to SexFactsOmaha.com to find information about contraception as well as more than 100 locations to find free condoms.
Results: Custom “Safe never goes out of style” social graphics were spread across social media targeting teens seeking the perfect prom attire, generating more than 1.1 million impressions and 38,000 engagements across social media platforms over two months. Local and national media loved the guerilla marketing campaign helping to generate another 25 million in free media impressions.

Birds, Bees, & STDs
Client: Women’s Fund of Omaha
For many parents, having “the talk” with a young teenager can be awkward. Because of this, so many parents unfortunately avoid the conversation, leading to a huge gap in the level of education kids have about sex and STDs.
To introduce kids to STDs – literally. Creating characters that represent the different STDs, along with a bird and a bee, they created a cartoon world known as The Birds , The Bees, and the STDs. At the center of the campaign was a music video, which lived on a family friendly and educational website. Then we took the campaign out to the people, creating STD mascots, cutout figures, stickers and t-shirts. A robust social campaign kept kids entertained, engaged and informed. And our cartoon characters attended parades and community events.
Results: The number of kids going in for STD testing doubled. And the campaign generated nearly 200,00 video views and 2 million social media impressions.
